Nelson Mandela, whose victory against apartheid united his native South Africa and changed the course of modern history, has died following a long illness.

The Nobel Peace laureate, who spent nearly three decades as a political prisoner before going on to lead his country, passed away at his Johannesburg home surrounded by his family.

South African President Jacob Zuma said "the nation has lost its greatest son", adding "he is now resting. He is now at peace".

exhibition at The Photographers’ Gallery in London. According to the Guardian, the photos taken by the New York-based Ledare will be included in a group show entitled “Home Truths: Photography, Motherhood and Identity.”

The photographs feature Ledare’s mother, Tina, having s*x with various younger men and posing in sexually explicit positions. Even the titles of some of the photographs aren’t for the faint of heart: “Mom Spread with Lamp” and “Mom F****g in Mirror,” among others.

As the Guardian points out, the photographs were previously included in Ledare’s 2008 book, “Pretend You’re Actually Alive.”

Ledare, 36, decided to start photographing his mother when he arrived at her house for Christmas one year, the Guardian reported. “I arrived home not having seen her for a year and a half,” Ledare said. “She knew I was coming and opened the door unclad.”

Costumes from the original 'Sound of Music' to go up for auction

Talk about a revival. Not only is Carrie Underwood taking over the role of Maria in NBC’s The Sound of Music Live! (Dec. 5 at 8 pm), but costumes from the 1965 film — based on the original Broadway musical by Lindsay and Crouse — are hitting the auction block.

On December 21, Profiles in History will sell fourteen costumes from the Oscar-winning movie musical to the highest bidder, a lot that’s estimated to be worth $150,000-$250,000. An auction of Sound of Music costumes held last summer brought in over $1.5 million.

Among the items up for grabs this time are garments worn by the Von Trapp children and the jacket and pants worn by Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) when the family performs the songs “Edelweiss” and “So Long, Farewell,” at the concert that sets off the film’s final sequence.

The lot was pulled from the Western Costume Company’s 6000-piece “Star Collection,” marking the first time costumes from archive have been sold in over 25 years. A release about the upcoming Sound of Music auction hints that other costumes from the archive — which includes Vivian Leigh’s “Shantytown” dress from Gone with the Wind and Rudolph Valentino’s robes from the 1926 silent film Son of the Sheik — will soon hit the block.

Paul Walker, the edgy action hero with all-American good looks who became an international star with "The Fast & the Furious" movie franchise, has died in a fiery car collision in Southern California. He was 40 years old.

The sad news was confirmed Saturday night by Walker's camp via the actor's official Twitter account.
According to the statement put out by Walker's team and also posted on Facebook, the actor was "attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car.
"We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news," the statement continued. "Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences."

The only pair of blue suede shoes Elvis Presley owned after his hit single are expected to sell for $80,000. 

The iconic size 10 brogues were ordered for him after he hit the charts with Blue Suede Shoes in 1956.

They became part of Elvis's wardrobe of stage outfits and were worn by him so much the soles have circular wear from his famous gyrating dance moves that wowed audiences.

They are the only known pair of blue suede shoes owned by Elvis in existence.

Elvis owned them for four years before he gifted them to his best man and roadie Joe Esposito during a wardrobe clear-out after returning from duty in the US Army in 1960.

In 1994 they were bought by museum owner Chris Davidson who put them on display at his Elvis-A-Rama institution in Las Vegas.

Experts have tipped the shoes to fetch $80,000 when they go under the hammer.

Included in the sale is a letter from the manager of Elvis' costume suppliers Nudie's Rodeo Tailors requesting The King's clothing sizes including his shoes.

A pencil note on the 1956 letter reveals Elvis was a size 40 chest, a 32 inch waist and size 10 shoes.

The tailors also created Elvis's famous $10,000 gold lame suit, worn by the singer on the cover of his 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong album

Completion of the world's largest of equine sculpture

Construction work has been completed on Andy Scott's Kelpies, the world's largest pair of equine sculptures and one of the UK’s tallest pieces of public art. The 30 metre tall Kelpies have cost £5million to complete and play a central role in the £43 million, 350-hectare Helix land transformational project between Falkirk and Grangemouth.
