Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets win Under 17 Cup!
20 years ago, ex-Super Eagles star Kanu Nwankwo was part of the under-17 squad that won the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Championship; the African football legend was more
than pleased to see Nigeria win the trophy once again, cheering from the stands.
Nigeria’s under-17 national team the Golden Eaglets have won the cup by beating their Mexican counterparts in the competition’s final held in Dubai, U.A.E.
With a strike from Kelechi Iheanacho, a superb free kick from Musa Muhammed and an earlier own goal from the Mexicans, the Golden Eaglets clinched victory.
Skipper Musa Muhammed was awarded with the FIFA fair play award. Kelechi Iheanacho won the ‘Most Valuable Player’ award for being the most outstanding player in the tournament and ‘Silver Boot’ for scoring close to the highest number of goals.
Overall, 26 goals were scored by Nigeria, the highest so far in the history of the tournament.
