Real life Barbie doll, Valeria Lukyanova has found her twin Barbie in Olga Oleynik. Both have the history of cosmetic enhancement surgery to look like the ever famous Barbie doll.

They met on the internet 5 years ago and both come from Odessa in Ukraine and both plan to “take America by storm”.

We were curious about our similarities. We had the same hairstyle, make-up, and even dressed in a similar way. Our friends were sure that we were blood sisters.

‘We are really sisters – but only in spiritual way. We have the same outlook and lifestyle.’

The pair have been holding lectures on spirituality at £50 a session. They use their looks to attract participants, it is claimed.

‘We are planning to move to America soon. Dominica’s boyfriend is living in the US and my husband wants to start a business there too,’ said Valeria. ‘I am not going to be bored abroad, I’m often invited to photo-shoots and parties.’

After two years of an unbroken record as the highest grossing Nigerian film in the cinemas,

 the multiple award winning movie, Ije: The Journey, produced by US based Nigerian film maker, Chineze Anyaene, is set to make history again as the film hits the DVD market from Monday, December 3.

Ije, produced in 2010, and featuring two of Nigeria’s best actresses, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and face of Range Rover in Nigeria, Genevieve Nnaji, grossed over N70 million in the box office, before the emergence of Avengers. The film beats movies such as Salt, Avatar and Spiderman.

Chineze Anyaene

According to the producer, who is currently in the country, “ We want to make history again by putting Ije on DVD.”

One of the cast of the movie, Omotola said “It is nice to see the movie on DVD, those who didn’t see the movie when it was at the cinema would have another opportunity to see the movie now. I hope they will like it’’.

Omotola, however, described her relationship with Genevieve while shooting the movie, as “cordial”, adding “she is so full of life and very versatile too. Genevieve is an actress who understands the industry, little wonder why she is an authority in this clime.’’

IJE tells the story of two sisters, Chioma and Anya, the choices they make in life and the consequences they have to pay for making those choices.

Gangster movie Kenya's first Oscar contender

A hard-hitting Kenyan movie about gang culture has become the country's first-ever film to be considered for an Oscar.

"Nairobi Half Life" has just been shown at Film Africa 2012, which is currently taking place in London -- having already made history as the most successful theatrical release for a local film in Kenya, according to its producers.

It's the debut film from Kenyan director David "Tosh" Gitonga, who says he wants to change views about crime in the country.

"We keep saying crime is wrong, but are we really looking at why there is crime?" he says. "I don't believe Kenyans get into crime for fun and giggles."

Prior to shooting, Gitonga wanted to understand the story behind Nairobi's crime culture and to fully comprehend the situation he spent time with real-life gangsters.

This experience led him to hear stories of gang members flooding properties and defecating on porches after robberies. He was told: "It hurts us that you have these things we don't have."

Gitonga admits he was left speechless when asked whether it's fair that some are born into wealth, while others struggle to feed their children just one meal a day.

"I couldn't answer that question and it still haunts me today," he says.

His film chronicles the trials and tribulations of the character Mwas -- a young aspiring actor from rural Kenya who dreams of becoming the next "Bruce Willis."

When Barack Obama won the U.S. election four years ago, his Kenyan half sister Auma was with her family at their homestead, watching the historic occasion on television.

It was a night Auma Obama remembers well. "We had a lot of people visiting to watch with us," she says. "There was a lot of excitement because it had been such a tough race. There was a sense of relief that all the hard work had paid off."

Alongside Auma and her family was filmmaker Branwen Okpako, who was making a documentary about Auma, "The Education of Auma Obama, " which is being shown in London Tuesday to coincide with the U.S. election and as part of the Film Africa festival.

"I will never forget that period in their homestead," says Okpako. "It was indescribable. Imagine something like that is happening to your family, yet so far away."

Okpako, 43, a Nigerian-born filmmaker living in Germany, became friends with Auma when they were both film students in Berlin in the early 1990s.

"We were two of four African women studying at the film school at the time and we talked a lot about how the African continent was portrayed in film and how we wanted to change it," says Okpako.

Auma shares a father -- Barack Senior -- with her younger half brother, Barack. The pair did not meet until after their father died in 1982 and Barack got in touch with Auma to explore his Kenyan roots.

Okpako had the idea for a film about her friend Auma in the run-up to the 2008 election.

Auma recalls: "I wasn't particularly enthusiastic when Branwen first suggested the film, but I agreed because she is a friend and I trusted her. If it had been a stranger, I don't think I would have done it."

Okpako says Auma was initially reticent about the film because of the huge media interest in her family that came with Barack Obama's rise to prominence.

"It has put me in the limelight in a way that wouldn't have happened otherwise," says Auma. "I don't like talking about my family but it's great if it gives me the chance to talk about my work with deprived and underprivileged children."

Auma, who lives in Nairobi, traveled with Okpako to the family's homestead in the village of Kogelo, where her grandmother lives and Barack Senior is buried.

"We were sitting together for 10 days waiting for the election and reflecting how we got to this moment in time," says Okpako.

"We were reading the newspapers and reading the statistics, but of course we didn't know what was going to happen. It was intense and full of anticipation.

"The film deals with that moment in time when history was made, but also how they got to that moment."

She adds: "All the family was there, the grandmother, all the cousins. Once the result was known everybody in the village came into the compound to celebrate. There must have been hundreds of people there."

While the crowd scrambles to leave the scene, Metu goes to help the dying man. Iyk puts a bunch of keys and an envelop in this hands just before he dies, Metu is now involved. No matter how much he runs and no matter how long it takes, he would never rest until he delivers the message that would have various far-reaching repercussions for him and those around him.

1) Metumaribe: 30 years plus extrovert graduate of Political Science from UNN with a stubborn optimism and too much expectations for his fresh arrival in the UK. Fun, loud and innocently naive. Must speak Ibo

2) Mkpurunma: Late 30's single mother of 2. Sassy, loveable but insecure...lacking in confidence and willing to compromise her standards in men and life generally. Must speak Ibo

3) Adaugo: Late 30's too, pretty friend to Mkpurunma. Single, fashionable, loves flash cars. She has an over-confident exterior but deeply insecure. Must speak Ibo

4) Munachim: Mkpurunma's son (9 years old). Spoilt little boy married to his mother. Must speak Ibo

5) Ogbenyealu: Mkpurunwa's mixed-race daughter (12 years) Attention-seeking rebel of a young woman. Must speak Ibo.

5) Iyk: 55 plus year old white man (caucasian) with a never say die attitude. He has a good soul that has been immersed too deep in the criminal underworld. Must be willing to learn Ibo.

6) Anayo: Suave young man (Munachim's father). Handsome and well built. Sophisticated Fashionista with a liking for loud colourful clothes. Just released from prison and about to go back. Must Speak Ibo.

7) Pastor Mishack: Large bespectacled man with easy manners and smooth tongue. Must speak Ibo.

8) Dr Ugo: Mid 30's psychiatric female white doctor. Very aloof and strictly professional. Must be willing to learn Ibo.

9) Mrs Lamber: Caucasian late 60's female with a dreamy, pained expression. Must be willing to learn Ibo.

Then there are obviously some more roles with decreasing importance.

All emails requesting audition pieces would have to be received by 6pm on thursday the 15th of November 2012. Audition pieces are written in English but apart from white characters, all others would have to do 2 performances. One one English, one in Ibo.

The trio of actress, Jackie Appiah and singers, Sarkodie and Becca were recently honoured at the just concluded National Youth Achievers Awards, held in Accra, Ghana.

While Appiah was given the award for being the best in Performing Arts, Sarkodie and Becca won for Music.

Available to present the award, was the president, John Dramani Maham, who congratulated and commended the trio for their efforts towards the growth of the entertainment industry in Ghana and Africa generally.

Cossy set to release album

Busty Nollywood actress, singer and dancer, Cossy Orjiakor, we love to refer to as ‘Commotion Cossy’ is in the news again. This time, it is not about flaunting her voluptuous boobs before the cameras or getting some hapless young men drooling with fantasy with a show of laps and cleavages, this time, the sexy MamaGamma is taking her music career to the next level.

Cossy on phone told E-Daily that she would be doing an album launch come December 15, 2012 and she plans to feature several  notable acts  in the album. Though she declined to mention names but she promised  that some of the names would be names already making waves in the music industry.

’I am putting finishing touches to the album. I can assure you that the album launch would be on December 15th of this year at the Prest Boat Cruise, Lekki. The album is a 15-track album. I am still gonna do small tidying up and work with other acts and producers’’ she said.

Cossy launched her musical career some years back and she has some singles to her name. Her top singles ‘’You Want Me’’ and ‘’You and Me’’ have worked the ground for the singer/actress and have indeed established her as a promising singer. Rita Dominic made history last weekend when she emerged‘ from the blues to premiere a big budget movie, “The Meeting” which many industry watchers believe relaunched her into the mainstream of the movie world after months of staying off the screen. The premiere, however marked a turning point in her acting career as she shares her success with Showtime Celebrity.

My disposition

I am a very shy person but people find it difficult to believe me when I say this.  Actors are the mostly shy people in the world. It’s hard to find an actor who does not feel comfortable playing the character that has  been created for him. But when it is time for him to be himself, he or she is usually a shy person.

I was telling one of  my friends some time ago that I have different personalities when I walk down the red carpet.  I’m another person and not probably the Rita Dominic you know. I tell myself, don’t be shy, just hit the red carpet with boldness.

Winning an  AMAA  award with a Kenyan film

I am not surprised because I always  believe when you do a good film, you will be recognised for it, whether it is  a Nigerian film, Kenyan film or any country in the world.

AMAA has their own criteria for selecting an award winning film. It could have been a Nigerian film. But I must say I put in my best in “Shattered”, because of the character I played and the storyline. It does not have to be a Kenyan film. I just felt  at that point in time that “Shattered” was one film that I have done in my whole career that gave me an award at AMAA.

I have been nominated for an award at AMAA before now. But I once told myself, I want to win an award at AMAA for a film I worked for. And “Shattered” helped to  realsie that dream. I was happy and I walked with my head high. I did not want to be nominated for an award for a film that wasn’t  challenging as ‘’Shattered’’;  a film I did not put in so much effort. I wanted to be nominated for a good film that has quality and is challenging.

Between Shattered and The Meeting

It is hard to answer this question. May be,  ‘’Shattered’’ was a lead role, so also is “The Meeting’’, I  have never played a cankerous role like I did in “The Meeting.’’. It is a different role.

My conncetion with Kenyans

I was in Kenya about two years ago  when then Nigerian Ambassador to Kenya, and his wife invited me as a special Guest of Honor, for the 50th independence celebration of the country. I observed the celebration with them. Thereafter, I was in the country again during the  AMAA nomination party.

About five months later, precisely in June, 2010, my manager got a call from Kenyan ambassador to Nigeria that there is a  Kenyan film  producer that  would want to  meet with me, and discuss moderalities in terms of featuring me in his new movie and all that.

Twenty five days after, instead of sending the script  to me, the said producer decided to fly into the country to meet with me. And when I saw the script, I fell in love with it.

From then on, we established a working relationship and exchange of ideas.  Everything happened so fast and before I  knew what was happening, a deal aws struck.

Working in Kenya

It  was very fantastic. Kenya is like a second home to me. Kenyans do not joke with me and I love them for that. Could you imagine that they went after me on twitter, wanting to know when I will be visiting their country again.

The movie called The Meeting

It has been several months of hardwork. We even had to suspend shooting for months just because we wanted permission to shoot at the airport in Abuja. Then there was the challenge of sourcing funds and the challenge of finding appropriate locations. So we had to commit funds to building sets. But we are satisfied with what we got.

I am glad at the comment that people have been making. Someone said he liked the fact that it is a truly Nigerian story that cuts across borders. That’s  the idea. To sign a truly Nigerian story that addresses an array of contemporary issues. But generally, I consider this era a new one for Nollywood and it can only get better from here.

The Meeting tells the story of a corporate executive who flies to Abuja to make an important 9:30am meeting with the Honorable Minister of Land and Resources. He  is scheduled to return with the afternoon flight same day to his office. But the unexpected happened, when he is faced with challenges from the Minister’s secretary( Rita Dominic) and he is forced to remain  in Abuja on the insistence of his boss( Jide Kosoko)  so as to ensure the Minister signs all necessary documents that would save his company.While in Abuja,  he meets up with a young lady who introduces him to the city, and for the first time  after his wife’s death, he begins to fall in love again.

Cost of producing The Meeting

I can’t put a figure to it because we are still spending. But it is certainly a big budget film because we are still spending on the film and I must say that it has been very challenging raising funds for this film. Most investors don’t want to fund movies because some of them have done that before and they got  their fingers burnt.

D’banj named Best African Act at 2012 MTV EMA!

Koko master, D’banj was announced as the ‘Best African Act’ for the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards, having received the highest votes from fans across sub-Saharan Africa.

Hosted by supermodel, TV host and entrepreneur, Heidi Klum, the 19th  annual awards show was broadcast live from Frankfurt last Sunday.

The DB Records boss beat four other African nominees;  Camp Mulla from Kenya, Sarkodie form Ghana and South Africa’s Mi Casa as well as his Nigerian counterpart, Wizkid to come tops. Wizkid who was nominated last year  lost to 25-year-old Moroccan, Abdelfattah Grini.

D’banj had previously won Best African Act at the 2007 MTV Europe Music Awards, Artist of the Year at both the 2008 and 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards, and Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards.

He will now vie against India’s Alobo Naga  and the Band and Ahmed Soultan from the Middle East for the chance to represent the region in the Worldwide Act category, which celebrates all the music that MTV has to offer by showcasing artists from all parts of the world.

The representative for the Africa/India/Middle East region will be announced on Tuesday, October 30, along with the other regional winners from Europe, Latin America, North America and Asia Pacific. These five regional nominees will then battle for votes for the “Worldwide Act” distinction, and the winner will be named at the show in Frankfurt, on November 11, 2012.

Hoodrush, a musical thriller starring some of the best young talents in Nollywood will be released sometime this year. The Story

HOODRUSH is a musical thriller detailing the travails of two brothers closely bonded by their love for music; but deeply separated by their means for success. Shez and Tavier are two of a kind pursuing a Herculean dream of becoming music stars. But all they have is their amazing vocal talents, good looks, a crib in the ghetto and a menial job that could hardly pay for their clothing and feeding expenses. 

They soon realize they need more to achieve their dreams, and participating and hoping to win a credible talent hunt show comes as their only natural option. Being at the bottom of the societal grid, ghetto life’s ugly fabric begins to wear on them and their eventual vulnerability puts them at the mercy of the high and mighty.
